The principals of Jones Urban have been in the construction industry for over 30 years. We are exclusive builders of cottages, small homes and accessory dwelling units. Our homes are space efficient, normally eschewing formal living areas to promote informal living areas, outdoor space and connecting with the larger community.
The Memphis/Shelby County Unified Development Code, enacted in June, 2011, now allows for the construction of an accessory dwelling unit in addition to the main single family home on the same lot. Accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, are otherwise known as backyard cottages, live aboves, carriage houses and in-law apartments. We use a combination of time-tested methods, innovative ideas, quality materials and dedicated trades to construct our homes.
We have pioneered quite a few innovative construction methods here in Shelby County, to include the following:
- We are the first building firm to gain approval from Shelby County Code Enforcement to use a sealed crawlspace foundation.
- We are the first building firm to build an all-electric home that met MLGW’s EcoBuild energy efficient housing requirements.
- We are the first building firm in Shelby County to use ductless heat pumps for whole house heating and cooling.
- We are the first building firm in Shelby County to use electric tankless water heaters for whole house water heating.
